Introduction

The City of Thurmark is a campaign setting for Dragonbane.

This supplement introduces a single city setting built around one transformative idea: magic made accessible to everyone. Through a process called Inscription, trained artisans bind magical effects into small, portable objects called Sparks. Anyone can use a Spark — no training, no Willpower Points, no magical talent required.

The result is an industrial revolution powered by magic instead of steam (maybe?)

  • A new skill: Inscription (INT), for crafting Sparks
  • New professions: Nine custom professions suited to this campaign
  • Magic Tricks: Cantrip-level effects that can be pressed into Sparks
  • The Metal Rule: A core restriction that reshapes equipment choices and combat tactics
  • A crafting economy: Material tiers, production costs, and market pricing for Sparks

Before reading further, keep these terms in mind:

  • Spark — A small non-metallic object (bead, token, marble) imbued with a single Magic Trick. Activated by anyone with a squeeze, tap, or snap.
  • Inscription — The skilled process of binding a Magic Trick into a physical material.
  • The Metal Rule — Metal destroys magic. No metal armor, weapons, or containers can interact with Sparks without grounding them out.
  • Inscriptor — A trained artisan who creates Sparks, committing their own Willpower to power them.
