Magic Tricks
Magic Tricks are minor magical effects that can be cast by mages or bound into Sparks via Inscription. Each trick belongs to a school of magic.
General Magic
Section titled “General Magic”All mages learn these tricks regardless of school.
- Fetch: Makes a loose object (max weight 1) within 10 meters float to you.
- Flick: Gives an object or creature within 10 meters a magical flick that inflicts 1 point of damage (can shatter glass).
- Light: Creates a bright light from a chosen focus that illuminates a 10-meter radius for one shift.
- Open/Close: Opens or closes an unlocked door within 10 meters that you can see.
- Repair Clothes: Instantly repairs and cleans clothes belonging to you or someone else within 10 meters.
- Sense Magic: Allows you to sense if your current location or an item you are holding is affected by magic, and what kind.
Animism
Section titled “Animism”- Birdsong: Surrounds you with lovely birdsong that grants a boon to Awareness rolls (only works outdoors).
- Clean: Instantly cleans and tidies the room you are currently in.
- Cook Food: Automatically and instantly (one action) cooks food without needing a Bushcraft roll.
- Floral Trail: Causes beautiful flowers to sprout where you walk; they wither after one shift.
- Hairstyle: Changes the color, length, and style of your hair, potentially granting a boon to Bluffing or Persuasion in certain situations.
Elementalism
Section titled “Elementalism”- Heat/Chill: Makes the area within 10 meters of you pleasantly warm or cold, protecting against cold weather rules for one shift.
- Ignite: Lights or extinguishes a candle, torch, or lantern within 10 meters.
- Puff of Smoke: Creates an impressive puff of smoke in front of you, useful for dramatic entrances or gaining a boon to Sneaking.
Mentalism
Section titled “Mentalism”- Lock/Unlock: Locks or unlocks a non-magical lock with a simple touch.
- Magic Stool: Creates a floating, round surface (half a meter wide/high) to sit on or place items on until you leave the area.
- Slow Fall: Slows your fall so you land as light as a feather, regardless of height.
Symbolism
Section titled “Symbolism”- Cipher: Turns written text into a personal cipher that only a specific, named person can read normally.
- Dictation: Enchants a quill to write down exactly what you say, word for word, for one stretch.
- Erase: Erases one page of text (that isn’t carved into durable material) simply by looking at it.
- Speed Reading: Allows you to read and retain one page of text per breath, letting you learn from a book in a stretch instead of a shift.
